Giza Cotton Shirting Fabric

Giza cotton is a premium long-staple cotton grown in Egypt, prized for its long fibres that spin into finer, stronger, smoother yarn — giving softer, more lustrous, durable shirting. This is an informational guide; for D BADAMI's woven cotton range, see our cotton shirting fabric page.

What is Giza cotton?

Giza cotton refers to the long-staple and extra-long-staple cotton varieties grown in Egypt's Nile Delta (the "Giza" series of cultivars). Longer fibres (staple length) spin into finer, stronger, smoother yarns with fewer protruding ends — which is why long-staple cottons like Giza, and similar grades such as Supima and Pima, are associated with premium, lustrous, durable shirting. Frequently asked questions

What is Giza cotton?

Giza cotton is premium long-staple and extra-long-staple cotton grown in Egypt's Nile Delta. Its long fibres spin into finer, stronger, smoother yarn, giving soft, lustrous, durable shirting.

Why is long-staple cotton better for shirts?

Longer staple length produces finer, stronger yarn with fewer loose fibre ends, so the fabric is smoother, more lustrous and more durable than standard-staple cotton.

Is Giza cotton the same as Supima or Pima?

They are related premium long-staple cottons from different regions — Giza from Egypt, Pima and Supima from the Americas. All are valued for the same reason: long fibres make finer, smoother yarn.
